AWS is the most mature of current cloud computing platforms, and using services like CloudFront (CDN, Content Delivery Network) for high availability and secure low cost content delivery is a perfect match with the other services they offer.

The challenge

Wärtsilä’s web presence had become overly complex, with multiple digital ecosystems and high operational cost. Editor experience was lagging behind industry standards. They wanted an upgrade.  

Faced with a complex digital content ecosystem spanning three business units and regional sites for more than 50 locations and languages, the company’s existing content management system had become difficult to update, leaving websites lacking in the features that customers have come to expect – such as responsive design and mobile device compatibility.

After getting in touch with Progress partner Siili Solutions, Wärtsilä began envisioning a new site.

Wärtsilä chose Progress® Sitefinity™ to redesign and relaunch a new website, and leveraged Sitefinity Insight to personalize user experiences by serving tailored content recommendations based on each action a visitor took on the website.

A full-scale redesign 

Siili partnered with Wärtsilä to implement a full-scale redesign of the company’s website, migrating their content management system to Progress® Sitefinity™. This included creating a mobile-friendly, modern user interface, while also introducing robust personalization capabilities through Sitefinity Insight to engage users more effectively. 

Content team training

One of the key aspects of the project was to train Wärtsilä’s internal content teams to manage and localize their own content, reducing reliance on external support. Siili provided hands-on training, enabling Wärtsilä’s teams to create, manage, and localize content independently for multiple regions.

Telerik Sitefinity Award of Honour

Wärtsilä’s web transformation was recognized with the Telerik Sitefinity Award of Honour in the Multisite category, a prestigious award highlighting excellence in website creativity, design, user experience, and functionality.

Competing against 25 contenders, Wärtsilä secured nearly 40% of the votes in a public competition with close to 8,000 participants.

The award was shared with Siili Solutions, which designed and developed the new website, reflecting a successful long-term partnership. The collaboration began in 2014, leading to the launch of the new global site in 2015, followed by continuous optimization and the rollout of over 60 regional and local sites.
