Making kids move more

Reima, a premium children’s outdoor clothing brand, wanted to tackle the global trend of children not getting enough physical exercise. 

To make children move more, Reima partnered with Suunto, Kallan, and Siili to develop the world’s first complete solution, the ReimaGO® activity sensor, for tracking and analyzing kids’ outdoor activities.

Challenge

It is a global trend that children are not getting enough physical exercise nowadays. Reima, a Finnish premium children’s outdoor clothing brand, wanted to tackle this challenge, and guarantee kids the freedom to be active in any weather.

Reima partnered with Siili, Suunto, a sport watch and compass manufacturer, and Kallan, a design company, to develop the world’s first complete solution, the ReimaGO® activity sensor, for tracking and analyzing kids’ outdoor activities, and rewarding children for being active.

Solution

The ReimaGo® activity sensor records a child’s activity and its intensity and duration throughout the day, while the ReimaGO® mobile application rewards kids for being active.

The actual product consists of Reima's premium collection of garments and Suunto's advanced activity sensor that connects to an app designed by Kallan and crafted by Siili. The mobile application gamifies kids’ activities and adds a reward-based overlay to motivate them and stay healthy. A vital part of the app is the parent dashboard where a child's activity is visualized and new rewards can be set.

Results

ReimaGO® is a definite milestone for today's digital society. The product picked up a lot of attention during ISPO 2016, and as publicity increased, many household names, such as mountaineer Veikka Gustafsson, declared they wanted to be part of an exclusive pre-release testing program.

ReimaGO® won the category Best User Experience at Grand One 2017.

The best part though is that the kids using ReimaGO® will get the health benefits of energizing exercise, fun adventures in a virtual world, plus the natural good feeling after physical activity – it’s a triple reward.
